Broadway Parish Plan
2005: Progress/Next Steps/Plan
We sent out around 1,500 questionnaires in early 2005, and have received over
700 completed forms back - so "thanks" to everyone there. By the time we
knock off the couple of hundred we had sent back as "gone aways" (e.g. those
that went to the Russells before anyone had moved in) or "go aways" (e.g. those
that went to Wickhamford - sorry, guys, but we're in the same parliamentary
group and we couldn't easily split your addresses out) and that leaves us at
something around a 50-60% response rate by address, or about 35% by population.
Outstanding: give yourselves a round of applause.
So far, then (May 2006):
-
We put together the overall process
-
We created a questionnaire, multiple
copies of which were sent to every household in Broadway in early 2005. The questionnaire asked
three simple questions: what's should we start doing, what should we
stop doing,
and what should we carry on doing in our community?
-
We've been in constant contact with
the good people of the Evesham Journal to raise the profile of the process and
give people an indication of progress
-
We contacted what we believe is every club, society and
organised group in Broadway to get their opinions (including the children and
young adults who might have been missed when Mum or Dad filled in the forms)
-
We've received back over 700
questionnaires out of the 1,500 we sent out.
-
We've typed all those questionnaires
in - nearly 4,000 individual responses!
-
We've crunched the numbers and know
what the hot topics are
-
We planned and held an open day at the Lifford Hall on the 9th of July.
This included all the advertising and "public awareness" that we need to create around this:
posters, postcards across the parish, getting the clubs and societies along,
advertising in the Campden and Broadway Advertiser, articles in the Evesham
Journal, word of mouth through individuals and organisations. About 300 people attended
on the day, including folks from the clubs, societies and organisations: thanks to everybody who could come
along.
-
We've published the high-level
findings and documents related to the Open Day on this site.
-
We held a "shaping event" at the
Lifford Hall on the 6th September where we got the various volunteers together
and used the collected brains to shape an action plan.
-
We've drafted the plan in
consultation with various "stakeholders" in the village (the key associations
and the groups who help define Broadway)
-
We've submitted the Plan to the
Council and they've approved it in principle.
-
The Plan is now open to public
consultation. Based on public feedback, we'll make any necessary amendments
before it is adopted by the Parish Council and finally published.
More information about the public
consultation is available here.
That's the plan in outline. The theme here is simple: something must be
done, they ought to do something about it, the council should fix things.
Well, in most cases, the various councils can't, or won't without our... erm...
"direction".
As for they ought to... who's "they"? It boils down to "us",
not "them": if we feel strongly then we should do something about it.
Do you want to make a difference? We need help from all parts of the
community, so get involved -

more information or to volunteer.
