About This SiteThe intention of this web site is to provide an "electronic community" for the village of Broadway. It's intended to provide useful, non-commercial (i.e. we're not going to sell you anything!) information for everyone who works here, lives here, stays here or simply passes through. So Who's Behind This, Then? This web site has been created by a group of community volunteers (residents and traders) who are working on the Broadway Parish Plan. Remember that questionnaire that dropped through your letterbox in early 2005? That was us as well. We're trying to "facilitate" the community's involvement in solving some of its own perceived problems. One of these was communication; one of these was a lack of information about the village in which we live (work, play, etc.). Hence the website. Note that this isn't trying to replace existing communication routes (church newsletters, the parish notice board, the information in the library). While we've got broadband in Broadway, we're a long way from 100% Internet access, so it would be naive to assume a web site could be the answer to everything. But it's a start, and it provides another outlet for information in the community. I'll take this opportunity to give myself a plug, though, here: this site was designed and developed and is maintained on behalf of the Broadway community by Ian Harper. If you're any questions about this web site or about the Parish Plan, you can contact me through any number of different means on this site, but, if all else fails, try info@broadwayvillage.org.uk. And You're Not Making Any Money?Nope. The initial funding for this web site has been provided as part of the Parish Plan, so it's been paid for by a combination of local traders, the Parish Council, and other donations and grants. In the fullness of time, though, this funding will run out, and we'll switch to an "advertising" basis. By that we mean that we'll raise funds from (primarily) traders for "enhanced" listing on this site: while everyone gets a free basic entry, there's be a nominal (and we mean nominal) charge to include a photograph, email address, external web site or overt sales information. More information on these "enhanced listing" options can be found here. Really?Really. If we raise more money than we need to run the site, we'll put some aside for a rainy day and donate the "excess" to the community in some way, simple as that. This is genuinely about providing a resource to the community, not about making money, as strange as that may sound! What About my Privacy?Any information you register through this site will be kept confidential beyond the means for which it was provided (so there's not much use in keeping your details private if you want to be listed in the directory, is there?). So we will not sell or transfer your personal information to any third party without your permission. You can at least rest assured that any spam you're getting didn't come from us, then. We make no attempt to individually identify any users of this web site beyond the need to register certain details (such as the directory entries). We do log requests (via the Internet Service Provider who hosts this site) to the server. This information is gathered partly because we want to know where our visitors are coming from and what they're doing so we can "tune" the site (e.g. what browser version, what screen resolution, which are the popular pages, etc.) and partly because it's simply interesting to see that xx% of our visitors come from Japan. So we gather information that includes, but is not limited to, the following information from our visitors: browser and version; O/S; screen resolution; IP address; ISP (and thus country/state); referring address/terms. Where cookies are used, they are only used to store preferences (e.g. colours, font size, etc.) and not to track you. Information on any publicly-accessible page will, by the nature of the web, ultimately be indexed and become searchable by public search engines (e.g. Google, MSN, Yahoo!, Lycos, etc.). Links and UsageYou are encouraged to link to this site from other places - the more you link to this, the more popular it gets, the more use it gets, the more content it generates, and so on. You are free to use the information for any not-for-profit scheme as a community resource. However, you are prohibited from framing any part of this web site; from linking directly to or downloading/copying any images or downloadable documents on the site; from copying any part of the text for any commercial use whatsoever. If you want to do any of these things, please contact us and ask nicely. In case of dispute as to what makes up "fair" or "reasonable" use of this site, the ultimate arbiters will be Broadway Parish Council, and their decision is final and binding (subject, of course, to prevailing laws on copyright et al). LiabilityThis site is provided for information only. No liability can be accepted for any loss or damage, howsoever caused, because of information contained in this site or linked to via this site, however it is or is not used. We aim to keep it accurate but we are not responsible if there are any inaccuracies, errors or omissions. As such we do not accept any liability, without limitation, for lost profits, expenses incurred, direct or indirect or consequential losses, business interruption, or damage to any system or program code. Put simply, whatever happens, it's not anything to do with this web site, its owners, sponsors or authors. Under any circumstances. Ever. I'm sorry if that sounds heavy-handed, but this is only for information, and we're not trying to give you legally-binding information. If in doubt, check first. AcknowledgementsWith grateful thanks to Broadway Parish Council for their support, particularly to the Clerk, Eddie Vickers, who supplies a constant stream of minutes and documentation. Also thanks to the Broadway Tourist Information Centre, in the shape of Dottie Friedli and Glyn Price, who have helped with many of the listing pages. And finally, to Micaela Schmitz, who keeps the calendar of events up-to-date as well as helping tremendously with general updates to the club and directory pages. Thanks, everyone.
